How did you start your business? What inspired you to take the leap into entrepreneurship?

I’ve always wanted to have my own business, the tricky part was thinking of an idea that I was passionate about and would be sustainable. kyth + kyn started when my parents moved back to Asia and I was craving my mom’s homemade Chinese herbal soups. I quickly realized that as a Chinese Canadian who has lived in Vancouver most of my life, I am quite disconnected to my Chinese culture. I then went on a journey to learn about Chinese herbs and their benefits. kyth + kyn is a curation of what I’ve learned so far.

The best part of owning my business is seeing how people also understand the value of what I am creating

What’s the best part of owning your business? How about the toughest?
The best part of owning my business is seeing how people also understand the value of what I am creating. It’s so invigorating when someone comes to me and tells me how what I do is important and meaningful.

The toughest part is being patient while my business grows. Because Chinese herbs are a newer concept in Vancouver, educating people on their existence and benefits is not an overnight thing! It takes time and patience is not one of my best virtues.

How do you go about creating or designing your product line?

My products are based on what I see are common, everyday issues. As a Holistic Nutritionist, I have an understanding of what common ailments people are dealing with. I am also aware of the impact that food has on our body. This is why my products are made with either organic or premium quality herbs.

What's your definition of success for this business?

To be the go-to source and leader for Chinese herbal wellness.

How do you connect with the local business community?

I love supporting local businesses. I attend markets to educate Vancouverites on my products and to connect with other local entrepreneurs. I also do collaborations with local businesses to share each other’s brands and products!
